INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR
Welcome to our website. We are Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist Church, located
in the Stratton Community, DeWitt County, and near to the towns of Yoakum and Cuero,
Texas. Directions to our Church will be found under "Directions".
I will give a brief description of our Church, and would welcome further inquiries,
if you wish. My home phone number is 361-293-3900.
We are an Old Line Primitive Baptist Church, and we meet each Sunday at 10:30 for
worship, which consists of hymn singing, prayer, and preaching the gospel of the
grace of God. We endeavor to follow the simple New Testament pattern as the Lord
has given, and we feel that He gave the Church everything necessary to praise Him,
without the addition of any man-made programs or inventions.
Our singing is without musical instruments, and our preaching is from the King
James translation of the Scriptures. You may like our practice of families
worshiping together. We believe, and have seen the benefit of "growing in grace
and knowledge of the Lord" together.
In the earlier days, people would often have their "dinner on the ground" on
Sundays and special occasions. Pilgrim's Rest Church also did this, and we still
have our lunch together, but in the dining room/kitchen. It is a good time of
fellowship and visiting together as we share our meal. Everyone is always invited
to join us after our Sunday service.
It is a well-known and acknowledged fact that many of the Lord's children have
grown weary of programs, rather than worship, and have become the "unchurched".
We are told that many worship in their own homes, rather than engage in these
rituals and programs. They have lost sight of what true worship consists. Sunday
mornings have grown to be productions of carnal entertainment in many "mega-churches".
I can assure you will find a warm welcome here, and you will hear
only the Bible preached.
Our Church was constitute d in December 1883, according to the New Testament form
of worship, and we follow the very same form today. Many things change with the
passing of time, but God does not change, according to MalachI 3:6: "I am God
and I change not...", and neither should the form of worship change that He left
for us to follow.
Our Articles of Faith are posted on this website and are brief statements of our
belief. They are not intended to encompass all the teachings in the Bible, but are
simple, fundamental truths to which the Baptists have always held.
